Woodfibre LNG project granted export license by NEB

The project is located in Squamish, British Columbia (B.C.), Canada, and involves the construction and operation of an LNG export facility on the previous Woodfibre Pulp Mill site. This would have a storage capacity of 250 000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tpy of LNG.
The export license is still, however, subject to Governor in Council approval.
In its decision, the NEB found that the amount of gas proposed for export from the project (for a 40-year term) is surplus to Canadian needs, and can accommodate a plausible increase in demand, as well as exports proposed by the Woodfibre LNG project.
The project initially received a 25-year license in 2013 to export approximately 2.1 million tpy of LNG. However, amendments to the NEB Act Part VI Regulations in 2015 increased the maximum term to 40 years.
In the statement, Woodfibre LNG Ltd claims that all of the commitments it made during its environmental assessment certificate application – as well as the regulatory conditions, plans and permits necessary for building and operating the project – will remain in effect for the project’s life.
