Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (“K” Line) has announced that it has signed a long-term 12-year time charter contract from 2022 with PETRONAS LNG Ltd for two newbuild LNG carriers.

“K” Line claims that it has also signed shipbuilding contracts for the two 79 960 m3 LNG carriers with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd (Hudong). These two vessels will feature X-DF engines, will be approximately 239 m long, and will have a beam of 36.6 m.

The two newbuilds will engage in transportation of LNG from Malaysia (Bintulu) to Shenergy (Group) Co. Ltd from 2022 onwards. According to the statement, the contract also includes a 12-year extension option.

These are reportedly the first long-term time charter contracts between PETRONAS and “K” Line with newbuild vessels.
