Dutch shipyard Kooiman has announced that it has been engaged to construct a second LNG bunkering pontoon for the port of Antwerp.

The purchaser of this vessel – named FlexFueler 002 – is Fluxys N.V. The long-term operator of the pontoon, meanwhile, will be Titan LNG B.V., who also ordered the first pontoon at Kooiman.

According to the statement, Fluxys and Titan LNG have joined forces to construct the FlexFueler 002 – a bunkering pontoon that will make LNG more widely available as shipping fuel in the Antwerp port and region. The pontoon will be commissioned by 2020 and will support the shipping industry in its transition towards cleaner operations.

The pontoon will have a length overall of 76.40 m and a breadth of 11.45 m. It will also feature four vacuum-insulated Type C 370 m3 cargo tanks that will carry LNG. Kooiman claims that the pontoon will not be self-propelled, and for assistance in manoeuvring, a bow thruster will be installed. There will also be a control room and simple accommodation on the rear of the pontoon.

According to the statement, the pontoon’s home location will be Quay 526/528 in the port of Antwerp. Fluxys at Quay 526/528 has a concession to provide LNG bunkering services and currently accommodates truck-to-ship bunkering on site. FlexFueler 002 is the second Titan LNG developed pontoon of its sort, and will be identical to FlexFueler 001, which will come into service in Amsterdam in approximately three months.
