If approved, the license would enable the project to export approximately 2.1 million tpy of LNG for a 40-year period. In December 2013, the project received a 25-year license, but amendments to the National Energy Board Act Part VI Regulations in 2015 increased the maximum term to 40 years. All of the commitments that the company made in its environmental assessment certificate application, and the regulatory conditions, plans and permits necessary for construction and operation, will remain in effect for the life of the project.
Byng Giraud, Country Manager and Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Woodfibre LNG Ltd, said: “This application, if successful, would provide even more assurance to government, First Nations partners, stakeholders and potential customers of the certainty of this project.”
In the statement, Woodfibre added that, from 9 February 2017 to 13 March 2017, the public can comment on how the license might impact Canada’s ability to meet its own natural gas requirements.
