Eagle Maxville seeks LNG export authorisation

Specifically, the company has sought authorisation to export 0.06 million tpy of LNG over a 20-year period to both free trade agreement (FTA) and non-FTA nations from its Maxville Facility. The facility is currently under construction in west Jacksonville, Florida, US, and is separate and distinct from the LNG production and export terminal belonging to Eagle Maxville’s affiliate, Eagle LNG Jacksonville LLC, which is being developed at a site on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville.

In the application, Eagle Maxville claims that it is seeking authorisation to export domestically produced LLNG on its own behalf and as an agent for others. The facility will receive domestically produced natural gas via a local utility; then, it will process this gas into LNG, temporarily store said LNG, and then periodically load it into cryogenic transport trailers or ISO containers for transportation by truck to port facilities for transfer into vessels for use as marine fuel in the US mainland – Puerto Rico trade, as well as for other marine fuel requirements. In addition to this, occasional excess LNG may be delivered to vehicle fuelling facilities in the region, or transported to port facilities for loading onto ocean-going containerships for domestic use or for export.

Eagle Maxville has been developing the Maxville Facility since mid-2015, and began construction in May 2016. The company expects that the facility will commence commercial operation and start producing LNG in September 2017. The facility’s main purpose is to provide LNG to Crowley Puerto Rico Services Inc. for use in its new Commitment Class vessels that are being introduced in the US – Puerto Rico trade.
