The 7500 m3 vessel will be used for the LNG fuelling of ships, including ferries, containerships and cruise ships, as well as shore-based gas consumers in the Baltic Sea. It is the first of its kind to use Babcock’s FGSV0TM technology, and will be constructed at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan, South Korea. The cargo tanks are scheduled to be delivered in January 2018, and the keel to be laid in February 2018. The vessel is due to be launched in April 2018, with delivery expected for September 2018.
Both companies have developed the FGSV0 technology to deliver LNG from the GSV to the receiving vessel with zero emissions to the environment during normal operations, reducing impact on the environment. The vessel will also align with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) 0.5% global sulfur cap on shipping emissions (which will enter force in 2020), as well as emission control areas (ECAS) in the North Sea, Mediterranean, Baltic and US Gulf.
