Andrews Kurth has released a statement announcing that Christopher F. Richardson – general counsel for an international oil and gas company – has joined the company’s office in Houston, Texas, US, as a partner.

Richardson has over 12 years of experience in both the international and domestic oil and gas sectors. Immediately before joining Andrews Kurth, Richardson was a senior executive and chief legal counsel for Mubadala Petroleum. Prior to this, he spent almost two years with Occidental Petroleum in Houston and Qatar. From 2004 – 2012, he was a lawyer at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, where he advised on cross-border oil and gas transactions globally, and helped the company to establish its office in Hong Kong, where he was resident for more than five years.

Bob Jewell, Managing Partner, said: “Chris's in-house experience with two energy companies, combined with his background handling sophisticated matters while in private practice, gives him an excellent perspective for assisting our clients. He has handled a broad array of energy transactions globally, and we look forward to having him on our energy team."

Richardson will continue to focus his practice on the following:

  • Project development, mergers and acquisitions.
  • LNG projects.
  • Negotiations either with or on behalf of foreign governments and sovereign wealth funds.
  • Strategic joint ventures (JVs) and investments.
  • Upstream and midstream contracts.
  • Corporate governance and compliance matters on a global basis.

Richardson said: “I've been fortunate to represent clients on a variety of complex energy matters across more than 30 jurisdictions worldwide.

"It is very exciting to be joining Andrews Kurth and its dynamic and growing worldwide energy practice."
