The INPEX-operated Ichthys LNG project has announced that both LNG tank platforms have been successfully installed. The installation was executed by the Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Laing O’Rourke consortium, alongside ALE Heavy Lift and Alliance Engineering Consultants.

Each tank platform weighs approximately 320 t, and had to be lifted 44 m up to the roof of each LNG tank. The operation required the assistance of 23 lifting lugs and 53 different slings. Each lift took a total of six hours.

The platforms serve as the entry point for gas pumped from the process trains, and as the exit point for gas delivered to the product loading jetty.

Randolph Maseyk, the JKC Tank Construction Superintendent, said: “A team of specialist engineers, riggers and workers were involved in the intensive preparation processes down to the inspection of every last nut and bolt behind the lift.

“This is a huge achievement for the team and for the project in general.”

The project confirmed that work has already commenced on preparations for the butane and propane tank platform lifts, which are scheduled to commence in the next few months.
