Reuters reports that Japanese imports of LNG have hit a five year high as freezing conditions continue to fuel winter demand. Shipments are expected to continue at a brisk pace throughout the month.
Imports of LNG rose to nearly 8.7 million t in January – up 8% from December and the largest volume since at least January 2013.
The increased demand is putting additional pressure on LNG sport markets in the region, as China has also rushed to buy up cargoes to support its government initiative to move from coal to gas to heat and power millions of homes and factories.
