According to Reuters, Alexei Ulyukayev – the Russian Economy Minister – and Emmanuel Macron – the French Economy Minister – have discussed the possibility of French banks financing the Yamal LNG project in Russia.
Ulyukayev told reporters: “As for the Yamal LNG project, the attention focused on the discussion of issues related to the financing of this project by French banks, and a possibility to organise it in such a way so that financial liabilities are fulfilled.”
Reuters reports that international sanctions against Novatek, which is the main shareholder in the US$27 billion project, have resulted in the project struggling to source funds.
