BigRoll Shipping receives new module carrier vessel for Yamal LNG

LNG Industry,

BigRoll Shipping has announced that it has received the BigRoll Bering vessel from Cosco Dalian Shipyard Co. Ltd. The MC class module carrier vessel will enter into a multi-year contract with Yamgaz, which is a consortium of Technip, JGC Corp. and Chiyoda. It will provide module transportation activities for the Yamal LNG project in Russia.

The vessel is capable of operating in the extremely low temperature conditions that the Yamal project is located in. Specifically, it is able to operate in temperatures as low as -55°C.

BigRoll is constructing two more MC class module carriers: the BigRoll Baffin and the BigRoll Beaufort. The Finnish Swedish 1A ice class MC class vessels are designed to transport major modules and equipment to remote, large scale energy projects, whether onshore or offshore. The first vessel – the BigRoll Barentsz – was handed over in April 2016. It has already provided transportation services for the Yamal LNG project, transporting modules from the Chinese fabrication yard to the project site in Sabetta, Russia.

Reliability, sustainable speeds, short transit times and sound sea-keeping behaviour are all ensured by a combination of the propulsion and steering machinery redundancy (PSMR) class notion and the hull design. In addition to this, the increased heading control provides decreased acceleration forces on the cargo. The propulsion system and hull design also ensure reduced consumption of fuel.
