PFLNG SATU achieves first gas milestone

The gas was introduced from the KAKG-A central processing platform at the field, and ignited the FLNG unit flare tower at a height of 130 m.
Adnan Zainal Abidin, Petronas’ Acting Vice President LNG Assets, Development & Production, noted that this milestone marks the beginning of commissioning and start-up for the FLNG unit, which will soon progress towards commercial operations and first cargo.
Abidin said: “We have come a long way with our partners to deliver a game changer in the global LNG business. The shared vision for PFLNG SATU to monetise gas resources uneconomical to develop via conventional means is an achievement all can be proud of.”
On 14 May 2016, the FLNG unit travelled 2120 nautical miles from Okpo, South Korea, to the Kanowit gas field for its offshore phase of commissioning. It features an external turret for water depths between 70 m and 200 m, and will extract gas through the use of a flexible subsea pipeline for the liquefaction, production, storage and offloading processes of LNG at the field.
The unit is designed to operate for up to 20 years without dry-docking, and is capable of being redeployed in a number of different locations in order to gain greater access to stranded gas fields offshore Malaysia.
