Galileo to provide LNG from stranded gas wells to power generation plant

Galileo Technologies has announced that it will supply 14 Cryobox-Trailer® LNG production stations to fuel a new power generation plant in Anchoris, Mendoza Province, Argentina.

The plant is being built by Methax, which is a special purpose company owned by Grupo Galileo. It is being installed at a key location of the grid in Mendoza, and will supply 40 MW of power, which will alleviate the stress on transport and distribution power lines. Once commissioned, the plant will generate enough electricity for 15 000 households.

The portable and small scale liquefaction units provided by Galileo will be deployed to a number of orphan wells distributed throughout the Malargüe region. By liquefying stranded gas, Galileo will provide up to 130 000 gal./d of LNG, meaning the plant will be unaffected by Argentina’s natural gas shortage during winter, as well as the rising costs of switching from natural gas to diesel or fuel oil.

The LNG produced on site by the Cryobox units will be transported by road in cryogenic ISO containers from the wellheads to Anchoris, where it will be regasified. This will create a virtual LNG pipeline between each well and Anchoris.

The President and CEO at Grupo Galileo, Osvaldo Del Campo, said: “Our LNG distributed production model provides great flexibility to build power stations in strategic locations in spite of the unavailability of natural gas pipelines.”
