FERC releases update on review of Alaska LNG project

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has released an update on its pre-filing environmental review for the Alaska LNG project.

FERC claims that the proposed project is currently in the process of reviewing and incorporating comments from both FERC and other agencies on its first set of draft resource reports (RRs) into its second set of draft RRs. Alaska LNG is also reviewing and incorporating comments that it received during scoping into the second set of RRs. FERC claims that second set of RRs should be filed by mid-July 2016. These will then undergo a review procedure by FERC and other agencies.

FERC claims that it will continue to meet with pertinent agencies throughout the pre-filing process to discuss impacts and mitigation and to provide further comments to Alaska LNG. This will include a thorough examination of Denali National Park and Valdez Alternatives. At present, FERC is in the process of working alongside the various applicable agencies in order to analyse and evaluate these alternatives’ feasibility. Any comments would then be included in the final RRs by Alaska LNG, which would then be ultimately filed with the official project application.

Once the formal application has been filed, FERC will issue a notice of application, which will outline the ways in which interested parties can offer additional comments on the project, or how they can become interveners.

Once FERC has received all of the information necessary to finalise its analysis and produce an environmental impact statement (EIS), it will issue a notice of schedule for environmental review. This will note the actual issuance date for the final EIS.
