Ryder System’s fleet surpasses milestone

Ryder System’s fleet of natural gas vehicles has reached a significant milestone, surpassing 30 million miles.

The fleet consists of LNG and CNG tractors serving customers in California, New York, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Maryland, Georgia and Louisiana, as well as in Canada. Since deploying its natural gas vehicle program in 2011, Ryder has replaced approximately 4.6 million gal. of diesel fuel with lower emission domestically produced natural gas.

Commenting on the achievement, Dennis Cook, Ryder President of Global Fleet Management Solutions, said: “We continue to see demand for natural gas vehicles from businesses looking to reduce costs and advance the environmental sustainability of their fleets. When companies outsource to Ryder, they get the benefits of our extensive experience operating and maintaining natural gas fleets, so they can reduce risk, maximise performance and speed return on investment.”

In addition to making natural gas vehicles available for rent or lease, Ryder’s ‘Flex-to-Green Lease’ solution is designed to ease the transition to a greener fleet. Businesses that opt for this solution start out with a diesel-powered vehicle and then have the option to convert to a natural gas vehicle at any time following the first full year of the lease.

Ryder currently operates LCNG fuel stations at its Fontana and Orange, California, service locations. Ryder also offers LNG fuelling at its Fulton, Georgia maintenance facility.
