ICIS launches small scale LNG portal

LNG Industry,

ICIS has announced the launch of a small scale LNG (ssLNG) portal, a web-based platform that provides coverage of the small-mid scale LNG sector.

Focused primarily on the small-mid scale LNG value chain in Europe, the portal offers news and pricing reports, as well as analysis on the emerging markets for marine and trucked LNG.

Market developments

Commenting on the state of the market, Deputy Global LNG Editor, Ludovic Aldersley, said: "The building blocks are in place for strong growth in small-mid scale LNG. Whether for bunkering sea-going ships, in inland waterways, or for use in road transport via trucked cargo or truck fuel, or simply for off-grid industries, there has been growing demand in Europe year in and year out."

However, a number of challenges continue to block key stakeholders and hinder market development.

Mitigating challenges

The ssLNG portal aims to reduce some of these challenges by providing transparent market intelligence and key price references. The portal includes a conversion tool facilitating volumetric and price comparisons across competing transport fuels, as well as news and analysis of market fundamentals.

"Critical market mass is approaching and it is only a matter of time before the aggregated small-scale LNG markets of northern Europe surpass a 4 million tonne per annum milestone. However, the endgame is much larger and not only in Europe, but also globally. As LNG availability and price misinformation still remains a barrier to market development, this portal should be a useful resource to all prospective and active market participants, and provide further impetus for market growth," Aldersley added.
