General Dynamics NASSCO has announced that its latest ECO Class tanker, the Magnolia State, has been delivered to American Petroleum Tankers (APT). The vessel is the second of a five-tanker contract between the two companies.

All five of the vessels are 50 000 dwt, 610 ft long, LNG conversion-ready product tankers, with a 330 000 barrel cargo capacity.

The start of construction of this latest vessel was signalled by US Representative Scott Peters in December 2014, whilst the keel was laid in June 2015. It was officially christened in April 2016.

All five of the vessels have been designed by a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) โ€“ DSEC. They all feature a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine and an optimised hull form, as well as dual-fuel-capable auxiliary engines and the ability to accommodate the installation of an LNG fuel gas system in the future.

The Magnolia State, as well as the other four vessels in the contract, is in line with the Jones Act, which states that all vessels carrying cargoes between US ports must be built in US shipyards.
