HIGAS has announced that it has obtained final governmental approval for the first small scale LNG storage plant in the Mediterranean, which will be located in Santa Giusta (Oristano), Italy.

The Italian Ministry of Economic Development issued authorisation for the 9000 m3 small scale LNG storage facility after it had concluded the works of the Ministerial Committee, formed by local, regional and national authorities.

The LNG project has now obtained more than 15 positive approvals, including the authorisation of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, which was granted on 4 October 2016. In a statement, HIGAS expressed its gratitude for the conclusion of the Ministerial procedure. The statement continued: “This exciting result has been achieved thanks to the hard work of Gas and Heat, partner of HIGAS, which carried out the authorisation process during the last year.”

Construction of the small scale LNG storage facility can begin following the receipt of the Ministerial Decree.
