LNG Industry,
Canada has launched its first LNG-fuelled ferry, the MV Armand-Imbeau II. The ferry is the first of two dual fuel ferries built for Société des Traversiers du Québec.
The ferry includes the LNGPac fuel storage system, which operates on dual fuel, thereby making the vessel one of the most environmentally friendly ferries in operation. Running vessels on LNG propulsion is expected to significantly reduce or almost eliminate the sulfur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon dioxide (CO2), and particulate matter from ship emissions when compared to traditional diesel fuel. It also contains cryogenic valves, which have been supplied by Bestobell.
Sales Director at Bestobell, Duncan Gaskin, commented: “It is really satisfying to see that the first two vessels in North America operating on LNG as a marine fuel have our cryogenic valves within their fuel systems. LNG is the fuel of the future for marine vessels, as ship owners aim to meet every more stringent environmental legislation.”
