The Port of Rotterdam Authority inks international LNG agreements

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has announced that it has signed a declaration of intent containing international agreements regarding the bunkering of LNG by maritime transport.
The cooperation agreement has been signed with Japan and South Korea, as well as the ports of Singapore, Antwerp and Zeebrugge. The agreement was signed during the International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON), recently held in Singapore.
The signing of the declaration is an important step in the transition from fuel oil to LNG as fuel for shipping.
Roland van Assche, Bulk and Shipping Manager, said: "The Rotterdam LNG port is in full development. This year, the Ternsund was the first sea-going vessel to bunker LNG in Rotterdam; at the end of the year, the Gate terminal will open a third LNG berth for loading LNG bunker barges and next year we will have an LNG bunkering vessel, thanks to Shell. We hope that many will follow our example, because only if other ports also embrace LNG can we succeed in our mission. Therefore, it is essential that in addition to Singapore, maritime nations such as Japan and Korea also embrace liquefied natural gas."
