Steel cutting for LNG-powered harbour tug

LNG Industry,

Drydocks World and Maritime World have celebrated the steel cutting ceremony for the Middle East’s first LNG-powered harbour tug, the ‘Elemarateyah’.

Held at Drydocks World’s steel fabrication centre, the start of this project marks a regional first and a major breakthrough in the future of green technology.

Drydocks World is experienced in building tugs and is now modernising the yards tug operations through pioneering the LNG-power concept. The ‘Elemarateyah’ tug is due to be completed in May 2016.

The company will embark on this project with active participation from Wärtsilä (supplying the main engine) and with Tasneef (providing classification services).
