A new gas-fuelled platform supply vessel (PSV) has been delivered by VARD to Simon Møkster Shipping.

The vessel, fuelled by LNG, has been custom built for operations in arctic areas and will commence operations for Eni at the Goliat field in the Barents Sea.

The gas-fuelled Stril Barents vessel is of VARD 1 06 design and has combined platform supply and emergency response capabilities. It is the ship of its type to be built.

Hans Gunnar Hansen, Yard Director of Vard Aukra, commented: “The project has been exciting, advanced and it has developed us as a company. By being solution-oriented and having a common goal in optimizing the product, we have together developed a ship with unique capacities that will ensure safety around the Goliat platform and its personnel.”

The ship’s ten-year contract in the Barents Sea will commence this month. Anne Jorunn Møkster, CEO of Simon Møkster Shipping, added: “This building project has been very exciting and developing for us as a company. It is a vessel with great flexibility and unique combinations. We would like to thank Vard Design, Vard Aukra and everyone involved, for an excellent cooperation. We look forward to start working for Eni and the operations on the Goliat field.

Hansen concluded: “We look forward to celebrate our cooperation that has resulted in a good end-product. Congratulations to Simon Møkster Shipping with the new ship, we wish the company, vessel and crew all the best.”
