ESL announces successful launch of LNG-powered handysize bulk carrier

ESL Shipping has announced that Viikki – a new eco-friendly dry cargo vessel – has been successfully launched at the Jingling shipyard in Nanjing, China.

The 26 000 DWT vessel is 160 m long and is fuelled by LNG. It is the world’s first LNG-powered handysize bulk carrier, and is a forerunner in energy efficiency and eco-friendliness.

Captain Jussi Vaahtikari said: “The longstanding work in this project becomes concrete today when we see the vessel floating for the first time. There is still a lot of work ahead before her delivery, but I’m confident that we will get a superb vessel tailored to our needs.”

ST LNG seeks LNG export permit

The Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management has received an application by ST LNG, LLC to export domestically produced LNG to free trade agreement and non-free trade agreement countries.
