Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd has released a statement claiming that it has successfully completed the construction of the Hitachi LNG terminal in the Hitachi Port area, Japan, and that operations have now begun.

In addition to this, the company has commenced usage of the Ibaraki-Tochigi line – a newly built, high pressure trunk line. Tokyo Gas now has a 950 km, high pressure pipeline network that mainly serves around the Tokyo metropolitan region.

Construction for both the pipeline and the LNG terminal commenced in 2012, as Tokyo Gas sought to meet growing demand.

Now, Tokyo Gas is preparing to construct a second LNG tank for the Hitachi LNG terminal. It expects that construction will be complete by 2020. The company claims that energy security will be improved in the Kanto region by looping high pressure trunk lines through connecting the existing Kashima Waterfront line and the newly planned Ibaraki-line.
