Lithuania has reportedly signed a five year LNG purchase agreement with  Statoil.

Reuters Africa reports that Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius expects LNG imports to start next year, as Lithuania seeks to diversify its supplies and end its reliance on Russian gas.

The LNG contract, which is estimated to be valued at US$ 1 - 1.1 billion, will cover deliveries of 0.54 billion m3 of LNG per year. LNG deliveries will be made to the Klaipeda LNG terminal, which Klaipedos Nafta is currently constructing.
