Krishna Godavari LNG terminal project receives environmental approval

The Krishna Godavari LNG terminal has been granted approval by the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to develop an LNG floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Kakinada deepwater port in Andhra Pradesh.

The proposed FSRU project will be developed over the course of two phases, and will have a total handling capacity of approximately 3.60 million tpy in phase one, and of 7.20 million tpy in phase two. This will power a number of petrochemical, chemical, fertiliser and power plants in the region.

Phase one will cost approximately Rs870 Crores, whilst phase two will cost approximately Rs400 Crore. Commissioning for phase one will commence 12 months after the necessary clearance has been obtained. Commissioning for phase two will commence 24 months after the commissioning of phase one.

The project will consist of the following offshore facilities:

• Dolphin jetty/mooring system.
• Floating storage unit (FSU).
• FSRU.
• FSRU platform.
• Unloading platform located between the LNG carrier and the FSU.
• A platform for mooring tug vessels, service and emergency vessels and crew changes.
• Walkways.
• Subsea pipeline stretching to land fall point from the FSRU.
• Navigational aids.
• Loading and offloading.

The project will also include the following onshore facilities at land fall point:

• Pig receiver.
• Metering skid.
• Buildings, such as a maintenance room, security room, control room and a UPS room).
• Fire protection system.
• Pipeline for connecting to the current gas distribution grid.
