Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corp. (Petrobangla) has reportedly reached an agreement with Excelerate Energy to establish the first LNG import terminal in Bangladesh.
Excelerate will deliver a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with a capacity of 138 000 m3 near Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal. Reportedly, the FSRU will increase the natural gas supply in the area by 500 million ft3/d. The vessel, which will supply gas to Chittagong in order mitigate the current gas crisis in the region, will operate for 15 years.
The LNG, which will be imported from Qatar, will be fed from the FSRU to Anowara and into the national grid. Imports are expected to commence around 2017 – 2018.
