LNG Industry,

Raytheon Anschütz – a German navigation system manufacturer – has announced that it has supplied advanced gyro compass systems for two vessels involved in modular transportation for the Yamal LNG project in Russia.

The AUDAX and PUGNAX vessels are 25 000 dwt polar class heavy transport vessels, and are capable of operating in temperatures below -40°C. They were built in accordance with the demanding DNV NAUT-AW and highest ice class notations at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China for Red Box Energy Services.

The advanced dual gyro compass systems feature redundancy in distribution, as well as a steering gear control system. This includes the NP 5500 fully adaptive autopilot for precision in heading and track control steering. The system integrates two maintenance-free, strap-down gyro compasses, which utilise hemispherical resonator gyros (HRGs) for measuring angular rates.

The sensors will deliver a high level of precision and operational safety to help support the vessels’ operations. The systems include automatic speed and latitude error correction, an individual speed error correction mode, an independent transmitting magnetic compass path, and quick settling. These are all typical features of Raytheon Anschütz gyro systems.
