PGNiG takes delivery of first LNG spot cargo

PGNiG has announced that it has taken delivery of its first LNG cargo on the spot market through its terminal in Swinoujscie, Poland. The 140 000 m3 shipment was delivered to the President Lech Kaczynski LNG Terminal via the 288 m long and 39 m wide Arctic Princess LNG carrier. The LNG was provided by Statoil from the Port of Melkøya, Norway.
The company claims that it is planning to purchase LNG both on a spot basis and under its long-term agreement with Qatargas. It added that LNG spot deliveries ensure the diversity of the group’s gas supply sources.
The delivery marks the first time that the Swinoujscie terminal in Poland has received LNG via a conventional vessel with spherical tanks.
In late May 2016, Reuters reported that PGNiG would receive a cargo from Statoil. However, Reuters also added that the company is not planning on purchasing any LNG spot cargoes in July 2016 through the Swinoujscie terminal.
