LNG ice-going carrier launched

ABB has announced that the first in a series of Azipod powered LNG ice-going carriers has been launched.
The LNG carriers are set to transport their cargo from Siberia to Europe and Asia.
The LNG carrier has been constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea. It will be prepared for commissioning startup of the ABB equipment from the beginning of March 2016.
ABB’s scope of supply includes turbochargers, generators, switchboards, transformers, electric drives, propulsion control and the Azipod propulsion units that will power the LNG carriers through the arctic conditions.
