Reuters is reporting that Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG export terminal in Louisiana has received a positive draft environmental report.
In the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) staff stated, “construction and operation of the project would result in some adverse environmental impacts, but impacts would be reduced to less-than-significant levels with mitigation.”
However, while Plaquemines as an individual project might meet the required economic standards, there are growing concerns regarding the cumulative impact from the multiple projects in the area on air quality.
FERC will take these considerations into account when deciding whether or not to grant final approval for the project. The date for this decision has yet to be announced.
