Wärtsilä has announced that it has signed a five-year maintenance agreement with the Nigerian gas transportation company Bonny Gas Transport Ltd (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Ltd.

Under the contract, Wärtsilä will monitor and service the engines on board BGT's six new LNG carriers and deliver spare parts, as well as expertise for inspections and major service overhauls. This is the first contract of its kind that Wärtsilä has signed in Africa.

The six LNG carriers are equipped with five Wärtsilä 50DF engines each and operate primarily on gas.

Simon Auseth, General Manager Business development, Marine Agreements, Wärtsilä, said: "We are very excited about this opportunity to provide superior maintenance services to Bonny Gas Transport. In addition to increasing the engine uptime, Bonny Gas Transport wanted to improve maintenance planning and operative cost control and this is something Wärtsilä can offer. With the continuous remote monitoring of the equipment and the dynamic maintenance planning concept, we can ensure optimal availability while minimising the risk of disruptions to operations."
