Reuters is reporting that a new ice-breaking tanker, able to traverse the Artic unassisted, is due to load its first LNG cargo from the Yamal LNG project in Russia.
The tanker, Georgiy Brusilov, recently departed from the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering shipyard and is due to arrive at Yamal’s Sabetta port on 28 November.
The Georgiy Brusilov is the eighth ARC7-class LNG carrier to be supplied to Yamal by Teekay, Mitsui O.S.K Lines and Dynagas, and another seven are on the way.
The supply of additional ice-breaker class LNG carriers is making a significant difference to the Yamal project, allowing it to ramp up production. The project’s output is no longer constrained by only having a limited number of carriers capable of navigating the Artic without the assistance of other ice breaking vessels.
