Reuters is reporting that Carnival Corp’s first LNG-fuelled vessel, the AIDAnova, has been launched in Germany and begun its maiden voyage – a seven-day holiday cruise around the Canary Islands and Madeira.
Carnival has been adding LNG-fuelled vessels to its fleet as part of an ongoing enhancement strategy aimed at reducing its carbon footprint. 20 new LNG-fuelled vessels are scheduled for delivery to the company between 2018 and 2025.
Trends like this are becoming far more common in the shipping industry as the IMO 2020 marine emission cap deadline draws nearer.
