MacGregor, which is part of Cargotec Corp., has announced that it has received environmentally friendly equipment orders for four next-generation eco-cruise ships. The vessels will be constructed in Germany and Finland, and will become the first LNG-fuelled cruise ships to enter the market.
Lars Öberg, the Sales Manager, RoRo at MacGregor, said: “Cruise ships operate in some of the world's most fragile ecosystems and a rising demand from both authorities and operators requires that onboard systems are as environmentally-friendly as possible.
"They also need to be efficient, quiet and cost-effective.”
MacGregor’s deliveries include electrically operated shell doors, as well as electric frequency controlled Hatlapa winches.
Öberg continued: "Our extensive portfolio of electrically-driven equipment is ideally suited to this ship type.
"The greatest environmental benefits of electric drives are the elimination of potentially polluting hydraulic oil leaks and the fact that, on average, electric drives consume up to 30% less energy than their hydraulic equivalents. MacGregor's impressive reference list of providing reliable electric-drive systems in RoRo applications as well as the company's ability to make timely deliveries was an important factor in securing the contract."
