Atlantic LNG celebrates milestone

LNG Industry,

Atlantic LNG, the LNG producer based in Trinidad and Tobago, celebrated its 3000th cargo of LNG at its four-train liquefaction facility located at the Port Forin terminal in Trinidad.

Energy Minister, Kevin Ramnarine, commended Atlantic LNG this milestone 3000th, which was achieved earlier this week with the loading of the LNG tanker, The British Emerald.

Minister Ramnarine said: “The LNG business in Trinidad and Tobago was being conducted in accordance with the highest levels of safety. In the 15 years since exportation commenced, there has been no major safety incident at the Atlantic facility or involving any cargo of LNG”.

The Minister also commended companies that have supplied the Atlantic facility with natural gas for the last 15 years, noting that Trinidad and Tobago is the most reliable supplier of LNG in the western world. Whereas other LNG exporting countries in the Atlantic basin have had challenges around reliability issues and have had to declare force majeure on occasion, this has not been the case with LNG exports from Trinidad and Tobago.

Trinidad and Tobago currently exports LNG to some 14 countries with 49% of LNG cargos now bound for South America and 27.5% going to other markets in the Americas.

The Minister added that a very significant commercial arrangement concerning expiration of Train 1 is expected in 2018. Talks between the Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs and shareholders of Train 1 are expected to commence shortly as they relates to the renewal of the Train 1 contract.
