Chubu Electric Power’s LNG vessel named
The naming ceremony for a new LNG vessel ordered by Trans Pacific Shipping Ltd., a joint venture company comprising NYK, Chubu Electric Power Co. and Mitsubishi Corp. was held on 5 September at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works.
Toshio Mita, Chairman of Chubu Electric Power, christened the ship Seishu Maru, while his wife cut the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place. NYK chairman Koji Miyahara also attended the event.
The vessel’s name is derived from the old name for the north and central parts of Mie prefecture, where Chubu Electric Power’s LNG terminals are located.
After delivery, Seishu Maru will be shared by NYK, MC, and Chubu Electric Power, and will used to transport LNG to projects in Australia and North America.
