DSME to build Ice-class LNG tankers
Daewoo Shipping &Marine Engineering (DSME) have reportedly won a contract to build ice-class LNG carriers for the Yamal LNG project, according to Reuters. DSME have alledgedly signed an agreement for the provision of 16 ice-class LNG carriers which will be delivered complete to Yamal LNG.
The agreement will also allow the transfer of rights to finace the tanker’s construction to third parties, which will include shipping companies chosen by Yamal LNG.
The Yamal LNG project is 80% owned by Novatek, Total has 20% and CNPC just bought a 20% share earlier this month. The project is slated to come online in 2018 and will have a capcity of 16 million tpy of LNG.
