Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has announced the hires of Jonathan Siu and Sung Hwan Choi. Jonathan and SD have joined the shipping and offshore oil and gas team in the Singapore office.

Jonathan Siu has joined the firm as senior associate, from Allen & Overy in Perth. Jonathan has extensive experience on a broad range of international transactions focusing primarily in the shipping, offshore and oil and gas sectors and has acted on numerous award winning deals including the Ichthys LNG and Nghi Son Refinery projects. Jonathan’s appointment is effective April 2017.

SD Choi has joined the firm as of counsel, from Campbell Johnston Clark in Singapore (having previously been at Kim & Chang in Seoul). SD brings a wealth of knowledge, advising Korean and multinational clients in all aspects of shipping and offshore finance matters.  He has acted for a variety of banks, lenders, investment funds and ship owners and is qualified to practice in England & Wales, the Marshall Islands, New York, and the District of Colombia. SD’s appointment is effective May 2017.

Harry Theochari, global head of transport, commented:
“These hires, together with the announcement of our upcoming combination with Chadbourne & Parke, and our recent office openings in Vancouver, Monaco and Papua New Guinea, illustrate our continued commitment to the shipping and offshore industry, which we have served for over 215 years.”

Ben Rose, head of shipping for Asia, added:
“In a recovering market, these two significant hires will help further cement our leading position in the shipping, offshore and oil and gas markets and continue to strengthen our Korean practice.  Singapore is an important hub for the global shipping and offshore markets and SD’s and Jonathan’s links into Korea, Australia, Malaysia and Japan will be of enormous benefit to our clients throughout Asia-Pacific.  We welcome them to the firm.”

These new hires are accompanied by the promotions of both Sue Ann Gan and James Bradley to of counsel.  Sue Ann and James are senior shipping and asset finance lawyers based in Singapore, with experience in contentious and non-contentious aspects of the shipping and aviation sectors.  These two promotions show the firm’s continued commitment to the shipping practice.

Norton Rose Fulbright has one of the world’s leading shipping practices and a top tier asset finance and offshore oil & gas practice in Singapore and throughout Asia-Pacific.
