Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd (K Line) has announced that it has hosted a naming ceremony for the new LNG carrier for Chubu Electric Power Co. Inc. The ceremony was held at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd’s Sakaide shipyard in Japan.
The President and Director of Chubu Electric, Satoru Katsuno, named the vessel BISHU MARU, which is derived from the name of an old district in western Aichi Prefecture, called Owari, where a Chubu Electric LNG terminal is located. The name, BISHU MARU, has been handed down from an older LNG carrier that was constructed in 1983.
The vessel will operate between Australia and Japan and has a capacity of 164 700 m3. Its LOA is approximately 293 m and it has a beam of 48.9 m, which will allow it to pass through the panama canal after expansion.
