The system comprises a 150 m3 vacuum-insulated storage tank with auxiliary equipment, including an LNG vaporiser, a pressure build-up unit, a bunker station and heat exchangers. It will provide the vessel’s three dual-fuel propulsion engines with gas.
The 133 m long and 21.5 m wide RoPax vessel has been designed by LMG Marine for Caronte & Tourist, and will be capable of carrying up to 290 cars on two vehicle decks, as well as 1500 passengers. It will operate mainly on the Strait of Messina between Villa San Giovanni and the city of Messina.
Delivery is scheduled for November 2017. Upon completion, the vessel will be the first of its kind with LNG propulsion.
