Reuters is reporting that Renergen has commissioned the Virginia Gas Project, South Africa’s first commercial LNG and liquid helium plant.
The project will position South Africa as the only commercial helium producer in Africa. It also makes South Africa one of only eight countries in the world exporting the gas.
Western Shell Cryogenic Equipment Co. (WSCE) has been appointed by Renergen to supply technology and equipment for the plant. Renergen has also appointed EPCM Bonisana to install the plant’s pipeline and manage its interface.
The project is scheduled to commence operations from 2021. It will have the production capacity to produce 645.3 t of LNG and 350 kg of helium per day.
