Praj Industries win US$ 22 million ethanol plant contract

LNG Industry,

Praj Industries Ltd, global biofuels technology and process engineering Company, has won a contract for a large Ethanol plant in Colombia from Isolux Corsan of Spain, who are the main contractors for the project of Bioenergy S.A.

South America is a driving force in the bioethanol industry, and indeed, in Brazil bioethanol made up 17.6% of its total transport energy consumption in 2008. Brazil is a success story in part because it has vast amounts of arable land to produce sugar cane to make bioethnaol, but in time Columbia could see similar success.

Under the contract Praj will supply the main process plant for ethanol production including the concentration of vinasse for use as liquid fertiliser. Bioenergy S.A., who are developing the 480 m3/d sugar to ethanol project in the Los Llanos area of Colombia, is ushering a new agro-industrial development in this remote area of Colombia. The contract value is a little over US$ 22 million.

The plant is based on PRAJ's technology that permits the use of very low pressure vapours generated from the juice evaporation area enabling substantial saving of both water and energy. The order forms part of the order book of the Company for the quarter ended June, 2011.

On this occasion, Pramod Chaudhari, Executive Chairman, Praj Industries Limited, said, “This is our biggest order in this region so far. We have successfully commissioned 5 Greenfield plants in Colombia over a decade. This will be our sixth plant. It is indeed a prestigious order for Praj from the Latin American region.”
