Gastech is accepting entries from both students and aspiring young energy industry professionals for its Young Gastech 2019 program.

The energy sector is constantly facing new challenges and understands that it needs to appeal to emerging young talent to ensure a bright future. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit an entry on the Gastech 2019 website by 22 July. As part of Young Gastech, delegates will receive a complimentary pass to the Gastech 2019 conference valued at US$5200.

As part of the submission process, applicants are required to enter an essay or video on the topic: “What roles could the gas industry play in progressing a lower-carbon economy while ensuring affordable energy for everyone?” Submissions will be reviewed by the Gastech Governing Body. The author of the top essay or video will be invited to take the stage at the conference to present his or her essay on the final day of the event.

Young Gastech provides a unique opportunity for students and young energy professionals. It is open to students from all degree backgrounds who are interested in pursuing a career in the gas sector and to young energy professionals who aspire to become more acquainted with the natural gas and LNG industries. The 2019 program will address the talent crisis and the benefits that a diversified, modern workforce brings to the energy sector. Selected program delegates will also have the opportunity to attend exclusive industry networking events and training opportunities from the brightest minds in the industry.

In an eBook recently released by Gastech Insights, energy professionals from ExxonMobil, Cheniere, National Grid, University of Surrey and more, shared their different journeys into the energy industry to dispel the myth that energy is just for engineers. Within this eBook, former delegates Laura Musick and Jonathan Oliver shared their experiences below:

Laura Musick, Director of Business Development, Asia Pacific Oil & Gas – Black & Veatch

“In 2014, I was selected as the winner of the [Young Gastech] Essay Competition during its founding year. This allowed me the opportunity to attend Gastech in Korea and see a completely different side of the Oil & Gas industry. My experience at Gastech opened my eyes to the global possibilities of the Oil & Gas sector and strengthened my desire to broaden my work experience.”

Jonathan Oliver, Master of Chemical Engineering – University of Surrey

“Young Gastech Delegates are exposed to incredible knowledge and advice that provide impetus when job seeking or advancing a career. I was fortunate to secure a graduate valuation engineer role recently and the Young Gastech experience certainly helped me gain a competitive edge. I left Young Gastech inspired, I am confident anyone else would too.”

Young Gastech is just one of the many spotlight programs at Gastech 2019 focused on workforce and career development; other programs include the Diversity & Inclusion in Energy Program and the Energy Talent Exchange at Gastech 2019.

Gastech 2019 is taking place at NRG Center in Houston, 17 – 19 September.
