Excelerate files request to build FLNG facility
Excelerate Energy has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) requesting authorisation to construct and operate a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) export facility in the US.

Excelerate CEO, Rob Bryngelson, commented: “The filing represents a major milestone and further strengthens project momentum as we head towards a final approval. We continue to make strong progress on all fronts and hope to make a final investment decision within the next 12 months."
Pending approval by the FERC, Excelerate expects the facility to be operational by the end of 2018. The company has already been granted permission to export to free-trade agreement (FTA) nations by the US Department of Energy (DOE) and has filed for non-FTA approval.
Lavaca Bay LNG
The proposed facility will be located on the coast south of Point Comfort, Texas. It will comprise of a permanently moored floating liquefaction storage and offloading (FLSO) unit with a production capacity of 4.4 million tpa, a LNG storage capacity of 250 000 m3, and an on-shore gas processing plant.
The facility will interconnect to the region's existing pipeline system to obtain natural gas and liquefy it onboard. The project will be designed with the potential for expansion, and will have an option for a second FLSO to increase the total production capacity to 10 million tpa.
