RasGas Co. Ltd’s (RasGas) Chief Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Officer, Khalid Thamer Al-Hemaidi, recently emphasised the importance of ensuring a robust safety culture within an organisation.

Speaking at the 10th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) in Bangkok, Thailand, Mr Al-Hemaidi, said: “In an industry that faces significant health and safety challenges, RasGas maintains a strong safety culture where ‘nobody gets hurt’. This culture is deeply embedded throughout the company by our leaders, who demonstrate their commitment to safety every day.

“Effective leaders are able to drive such a culture, as it is underpinned by trust and accountability, going beyond policies and procedures. It is a mind-set, a set of unwritten standards and behaviours that every leader at RasGas is expected to have.”

RasGas is an industry leader in safety and health performance. Over 2005 to 2015, the company’s Total Recordable Injuries Rate (TRIR) decreased by 93%, while its Lost-Time Injuries Rate (LTIR) decreased by 94%.

Last year, an employee survey confirmed that 93% of RasGas employees view the company’s safety culture as a key strength. ‘Commitment to safety’ has also been the highest ranking company value in the last four RasGas organisational climate surveys. RasGas also continues to develop new methodologies to improve best practice within the organisation.
