FERC issues final EIS for Calcasieu Pass LNG project

The proposed project would consist of an LNG export terminal, as well as 23.4 miles of 42 in. diameter pipeline in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, US.

In the statement, FERC claims that the EIS has been prepared in alignment with the following: the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); the Council on Environmental Quality regulations for implementing NEPA (Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations [CFR], Parts 1500–1508); and FERC regulations implementing NEPA (18 CFR 380).

FERC claims that, although the project would lead to some adverse environmental impacts, these impacts would be reduced to a level considered ‘less than significant’. This conclusion is based on a review of information that was provided by Venture Global LNG Inc. and TransCameron Pipeline LLC. Data requests, field investigations, scoping, literature research, alternative analyses, and contacts with the federal, state and local agencies, as well as with Native American tribes and other stakeholders, also helped FERC reach its conclusion.

In addition to this, FERC claims that it developed and recommended a number of other site-specific mitigation measures that Venture Global and TransCameron Pipeline should put in place in order to further minimise the environmental impacts that would otherwise be caused by the project construction.
