JV wins H-Energy LNG EPC contract

H-Energy Gateway Pvt Ltd has signed a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with the joint venture (JV) of SENER and AFCONS. The contract covers H-Energy’s LNG storage and regasification project in Jaigad, Maharashtra, India.

Construction of the LNG terminal, which has a capacity of 8 million tpy, is set to begin in mid-2015.

Darshan Hiranandani, Chief Executive Officer, H-Energy Group of Companies, said: “H-Energy is glad to have obtained final Environmental Clearance earlier this month along with confirmation of grid connectivity at Dabhol. Signing of an EPC contract with a very capable SENER- AFCONS JV marks another milestone for the project. We are immensely happy with the ability of the consortium to deliver us a world class LNG regasification terminal; and hope to extend this partnership to several other projects in the future.”

Shaju Stephen, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, SENER in India, said: “We are happy to be associated with H-Energy along with our EPC partner AFCONS in such a project where SENER’s core multi-disciplinary expertise in design, engineering and construction in infrastructure, industrial as well as oil and gas will be utilised. We are also happy that through this project, SENER will be bringing home the technology in a true sense. We are proud to be part of the country’s first merchant level LNG terminal construction. It is indeed a great moment since we have achieved this in our second year of operation in the country.” 

Borja Zárraga, SENER’s Power and Process General Manager, added: “This EPC contract represents another step for SENER in India. We are a global engineering and construction company of industrial plants with references in LNG such as Sagunto in Spain, Gate Terminal in the Netherlands, Dunkirk in France, Zeebrugge in Belgium or the virtual pipeline for YPFB in Bolivia, among others. We hope that the Jaigad plant will be followed soon by new LNG contracts in Asia, where we are currently present with other technologies such as in solar thermal plants in which we are a leading engineering and construction company.”

K. Subrahmanian, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd, concluded: “We are delighted to be associated with this prestigious project of H-Energy as consortium partner of SENER. We already have a large footprint in [the] LNG sector having built four LNG tanks in India, [a] regasification facility and two LNG jetties.”

The JV, AFCONS - SENER LNG Construction Projects Pvt Ltd, a 49 - 51% partnership between the two companies, will be responsible for design, engineering, procurement, project management, construction, testing and commissioning for this LNG terminal.

SENER will carry out complete design and engineering for the LNG project and support the JV with its global expertise in procurement, construction, project management and commissioning.
