Ryder expands natural gas use through partnership with Clean Energy

Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has announced that Ryder System Inc. has awarded Clean Energy a four-year fueling contract for a fleet of LNG heavy-duty trucks that move goods for Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc., Toyota’s largest manufacturing facility in North America located in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Clean Energy will open a station in Georgetown to fuel the trucks that are expected to consume approximately 380 000 gasoline gallon equivalents (GGEs) per year.
Ryder has made sustainability a priority and has been a leader in expanding its offering of advanced vehicle technologies. Toyota has also rapidly expanded into alternative fuels and has encouraged its third-party carriers to move its goods in a more sustainable way. As a fuel LNG fits this mandate well as it produces less emissions than diesel.

“We are seeing a trend in shippers selecting carriers that demonstrate a commitment to the environment,” said Chad Lindholm, Vice President at Clean Energy. “Natural gas is a perfect fit for carriers because not only is it cleaner, it’s abundant, is available today, performs every bit as well as diesel, and makes sense economically.”
