ConocoPhillips looking to sell Kenai LNG export terminal

According to Reuters, ConocoPhillips is looking to sell its Kenai LNG export terminal in Alaska, US. Speaking on the sale, Amy Burnett, ConocoPhillips’ spokeswoman, noted that the company’s current focus is on North Slope operations in Northern Alaska.

The facility began operating in 1969 and, for a period of 47 years, was the only LNG export terminal in North America. Throughout its life, the majority of LNG produced by the facility has been exported to Japan.

Reportedly, the plant operated for six months in 2015, delivering six cargoes. By comparison, in 2016, the facility has not exported any gas due to market conditions. Nevertheless, Reuters claims that the facility, which is capable of liquefying 0.2 billion ft3/d of gas, is still operational and is ready to resume exporting cargoes.

ConocoPhillips claims that its plans to sell the facility are in line with regular asset reviews to make sure that the company is optimising its portfolio. Burnett added that, in January 2017, the company will open a data room associated with the sale.
